Teresa Sullivan, a professor of sociology and law at the University of Texas at Austin and current Executive Vice-President for Academic Affairs for the University of Texas System, has accepted appointment as Provost at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  Her husband, my esteemed colleague Douglas Laycock (constitutional law, remedies), has accepted an appointment in the Law School at Michigan. 

This is a big coup for Michigan, which had first tried to hire Laycock away from Texas more than a dozen years ago.  Laycock will give Michigan for the first time in awhile a major senior scholar in constitutional law, as well as the nation’s leading authority on the law of remedies.  The UT news item on Professor Laycock’s distinguished career and contributions during nearly a quarter-century at Texas is here.  The Michigan press release is here.
