Darwall from Michigan to Yale

Stephen Darwall (ethics, history of ethics), who has taught at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor since 1984, has accepted the senior offer from the Department of Philosophy at Yale University, where he will start in fall 2008.  Along with this year’s addition of Kenneth Winkler (early modern philosophy) from Wellesley, this appointment should push the rejuvenated Yale Department to the cusp of the U.S. top ten (depending, of course, on what happens elsewhere).  Michigan will continue, however, to have a quite strong presence in ethics (with Elizabeth Anderson, Sarah Buss, Allan Gibbard, Peter Railton, and Donald Regan).
