Four Finalists for the Deanship at Memphis

They are:  current Interim Dean at Memphis Kevin Smith; Richard Bales, a professor and former Interim Dean at Northern Kentucky; David Alexander Brennan, Deputy Director of the AALS; and Penelope Bryan, Associate Dean at the University of Denver (though this blog reports she has accepted the Deanship at Whittier already, in which case she must be out of the running);

The on-line letter to alumni from Interim Dean Smith gives a good sense of the accomplishments of the school and the obstacles (especially funding) that confront it.  Having read many of these kinds of letters, I must say this one strikes me as a model of maturity and good sense.
