This year’s iteration of the annual Zoom-only Illinois/Penn Legal Theory Seminar taught by Leo Katz and Michael Moore will be devoted to a chapter-by-chapter examination of a new book by Heidi Hurd and Michael Moore, The Morality of the Criminal Law (Edward Elgar Pub., 2027). Weekly commentators on the various chapters of the book will among others include Mitch Berman, Kim Ferzan, and Stephen Morse from Penn, Eric Johnson and Bill Watson from Illinois,  Gideon Yaffe from Yale, Gabe Mendlow from Michigan, Tom Hurka from Toronto, and Chris Kutz, Dana Nelkin, David Brink, and Ken Simons from various campuses of the University of California. Each year the students from Penn and Illinois are joined by students, post-docs, and younger faculty from other universities both in the U.S. and abroad. This year, for example, scholars and students from Stanford and Columbia universities in the U.S., Hosei University in Japan, and Surrey and Cambridge universities in England, have already expressed their intent to attend. Those with a strong background in criminal law theory and/or moral  responsibility are encouraged to indicate their interest in Zoom-attending all or some of the sessions of the Seminar by writing to Michael Moore (micmoore@illinois.edu) and Leo Katz (lkatz@law.upenn.edu).
