Temple had a busy year of lateral hiring; in addition to Noel Carroll, the Philosophy Department also hired, to the tenured ranks, two scholars interested in issues at the intersection of philosophy and race: Lewis Gordon from the Africana Studies Department at Brown University and Paul Taylor, currently an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Washington, Seattle. In addition, the Temple Department hired to the tenure-track Michael Thau (philosophy of mind), currently an assistant professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. Thau, as it happens, did his undergraduate work at Temple, where his mentor was Michael Tye (who is now at Texas), and whose position he, in effect, now fills at Temple.
