UC Davis Makes Bid for Philosopher Nelson at Irvine

Alan Nelson (early modern philosophy) at the University of California at Irvine has a senior offer from the University of California at Davis.  With Nelson and Nicholas Jolley, Irvine has one of the outstanding programs in early modern philosophy in the United States.  Meanwhile, Davis has recently developed notable strengths in history of philosophy, having added a few years ago Victor Caston (ancient philosophy) from Brown (who joined Michael Wedin in that area) and having, more recently, added (to a part-time post) Henry Allison, the distinguished Kant scholar, from Boston University.
