Political philosopher Charles Larmore at the University of Chicago has accepted the offer from Brown University, where he will start in fall 2006. At Brown, he will join, in the area of political philosophy, David Estlund (Philosophy) and John Tomasi (Political Science, and an affiliated member of the philosophy faculty). Although Chicago will continue to have a substantial presence in political philosophy (with, e.g., Daniel Brudney and Martha Nussbaum, among others), my guess is that in the PGR surveys next year for political philosophy Brown will move up a group, and Chicago will drop down.
