David Luban (Law, Georgetown) here does a splendid job dismembering the disgraceful defense of unchecked executive power by political theorist Harvey Mansfield of Harvard. As Professor Luban concludes: "What’s most remarkable about [Mansfield’s] article is that nearly every sentence in it is false." Luban makes the case. (Mansfield, by the way, represents the intellectual "high end" of Straussian political theorists…bear that in mind while reading Luban’s critique.)
