UPDATE (May 22):  The new version is here.

I’m uploading a new version, and creating a new comments section (no anonymous posts–and post your corrections here, please don’t e-mail me), of the draft faculty lists for the fall 2006 PGR surveys:  Download pgr_faculty_lists_for_2006.doc . Please read the intro material carefully.  This list reflects the several dozen corrections already received–many thanks!

Two corrections to the LSE list:

    1. Helen Billinge left the department at the end of the academic year 2003-04.

    2. Matthew Parker, PhD U of Chicago, joined the department in the fall of 2005.

  2. Ralph Wedgwood

A quick point about spelling: Our Oxford medievalist's name is Cecilia Trifogli (not Cecelia).

  3. Peter Anstey should be removed from the Sydney list, since he will be at Otago. St Andrews should have Simon Prosser added to its list (and to St Andrews/Stirling, which also still seems incorrect on the Stirling side – but I'll leave that for the Stirling people to point out.)

  4. Gonzalo Rodriguez-Pereyra

A correction to the Nottingham list: Gregory Currie is Dean of the Faculty of Arts, not Dean of College.

  5. Regarding Colorado, Graham Oddie is Associate Dean for Arts and Humanities (as opposed to Dean of the College).

Brian, I notice that on the PGR Draft Faculty List of May 17 that Jenann Ismael's name is missing from the University of Arizona listing. Jenann is a tenured Associate Professor in the University of Arizona Department of Philosophy.

The list also fails to mention Keith Lehrer, who retired from his full time position in this department several years ago. However, he has since returned to the Department's active faculty on a continuing part-time basis. He is directing dissertations, teaches graduate seminars and is highly engaged in the education of graduate students.

    Sincerely,
    Chris Maloney
    Head and Professor of Philosophy
    University of Arizona

  7. re: Auckland. In addition to Max Cresswell and Roderic Girle, Christine Swanton and Julian Young are also part-time.

  8. Chris, I was led to understand by Mark Colyvan that Jenann Ismael will be at Sydney for the next five years. Is that not correct?

I addressed the question of emeritus faculty in the earlier posting about the draft faculty lists here:
    http://leiterreports.typepad.com/blog/2006/05/draft_faculty_l_3.html
Keith Lehrer is listed as emeritus on the Arizona web site.

I wonder if there is any consistent policy for listing faculty part-time and full-time, particularly with faculty who split their time between two departments. For instance, Brian Skyrms is listed part-time for both Irvine (2/3) and Stanford (1/3), where as Nancy Cartwright is listed full-time for the LSE and part-time (1/3) for UCSD.

  10. Fair question. Full-time and part-time is meant to reflect how often the faculty member is present during the terms (semesters or quarters) the school is in normal session. Since terms at schools outside the US are not the same as those in the US, it is possible to be full-time at, e.g., a UK or Australian school, while also being part-time at a school in the US.

  11. Regarding Princeton, Paul Benacerraf should be listed among the faculty on phased retirement.

  12. Brian, More deletions and additions for the Sydney list. Delete Michael Selgelid and Chris Stewart (both formerly with HPS), and Simon Lumsden (formerly in Philosophy). Add Justine McGill, Luca Moretti, Uriah Kriegel (on a research fellowship on leave from Arizona), Paolo Diego Bubbio, Joseph Berkovitz (on a research fellowship on leave from UMBC) and Sungho Choi.

  13. I think we need some more detail on these "research fellowships": both about their duration, and about whether those holding them are doing teaching and supervison of graduate students. Professor Ismael's I understood to be for five years, which is certainly of sufficient duration. What is the duration of these others? And what are the duties of holders of these fellowships? Thanks.

  14. Of the six additions mentioned above, Moretti, Kriegel, Bubbio, Berkovitz and Choi are on research fellowships. Moretti and Berkovitz have two years, the others three. They are not required to undertake graduate supervision, but may do so, and are encouraged to do so, where appropriate.

  15. Brian Skyrms will continue in his full-time appointment as Distinguished Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science and Economics at UC Irvine when he visits Stanford University for one quarter in the academic year 2007-8. This will also be true in subsequent years under the current arrangement.
