Another day, another group of students with open contempt for academic freedom

Oxford students, apparently having discovered that legal philosopher and reactionary Catholic John Finnis has written foolish and sometimes quite ugly things about gay people for years, are now demanding that he be removed from teaching.  Finnis would, in his teaching, have to abide by anti-discrimination rules and law, but there is no allegation that he has violated any of these.  Instead, the students wish to sanction him for his published writings.   Perhaps the Oxford BCL course of study should require a mandatory course on academic freedom, so that these students would not disgrace themselves and their university.
