Nearly $47 billion given to U.S. universities last year

These are "charitable" donations, since all these universities are non-profits.   Bear that in mind when you hear figures about "charitable" giving by the rich.  In some cases, of course, the "charitable" folks are buying admission for their offspring.

ADDENDUM:  Note that some schools on the list are in the midst of capital campaigns, while others are not–that explains some of the big differences in totals.
