…and it rather looks like they did so because of her political views and speech. (This is espescially ironic in light of this.) If anyone has seen details of allegations of misconduct against the fired professor, please share links in the comments. Absent that, this seems an egregious violation of the free speech rights of the professor.
Quick point: Mount Royal University is not the University of Calgary. MRU is in Calgary, but is a distinct institution.
BL COMMENT: Yes, that is why I said a university "IN" Calgary.
I am quite familiar with this case, as my spouse works at MRU and has interacted with the subject on multiple occasions. So far as I can tell, she was not fired for her views or her speech, which are protected by academic freedom. If that were the case, she would have been fired years ago. Rather, it seems to me that she was fired for egregious behaviour towards colleagues and other University staff. One can't go around berating and mistreating staff and students without repercussion. She is going to do her best, no doubt, to try to become a "free speech martyr", but that is not my understanding of the situation at all.
