That's the actual name of a business, and this sad story is a good example of how race-centric thinking is actually dangerous to the well-being of people, in this case, schoolchildren:
A Hayward elementary school struggling to boost low test scores and dismal student attendance is spending $250,000 in federal money for an organization called Woke Kindergarten to train teachers to confront white supremacy, disrupt racism and oppression and remove those barriers to learning.
The Woke Kindergarten sessions train teachers on concepts and curriculum that’s available to use in classrooms with any of Glassbrook Elementary’s 474 students. The sessions are funded through a federal program meant to help the country’s lowest-performing schools boost student achievement.
But two years into the three-year contract with Woke Kindergarten, a for-profit company, student achievement at Glassbrook has fallen, prompting some teachers to question whether the money was well spent given the needs of the students, who are predominantly low-income. Two-thirds of the students are English learners and more than 80% are Hispanic/Latino.
In the United States, there are two verboten topics: class and (bizarrely) Israel. But around these two topics, elite opinion is unified, although for different reasons (I'll bracket the inability of elites to seriously discuss Israel for now).
Children who live in poverty have trouble learning: that is hard for elites who grew up in pleasant bourgeois circumstances (complete with medication for ADHD, depression and mental health problems) to understand, since they never thought about the role of pleasant bourgeois surroundings in their ability to learn. Imagine how much more challenging learning would be if, e.g., there was not enough food in the house for breakfast or dinner, or you might get shot on the way to or from school, or you were evicted or homeless, etc.. This isn't about "white supremacy" or "racism" (even if the history of American apartheid explains the current class position of many of these children); it's about the current material and economic circumstances of their lives. I hope the Woke Kindergarten grifters are prosecuted for consumer fraud.
