Stephen Finlay, a leading figure in metaethics, will become Professor of Philosophy at the Univeristy of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (from which he received his PhD many years ago) this fall.  Finlay was formerly Professor of Philosophy and Director of the ill-fated Dianoia Institute of Philosophy at the Australian Catholic University, and, before that, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Southern California.  Finlay's hire is the latest senior recruitment at Illinois, which returned to the top 50 in last year's PGR.  This latest appointment should push the department closer to the top 40.
