The mission of The Collective is to promote and support women in legal philosophy and legal theory (broadly defined) who have a commitment to analytical methodology. 

The Collective began in 2022 as the brainchild of Veronica Rodriguez-Blanco, Professor in Moral and Political Philosophy (Jurisprudence) at the School of Law, and member of the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy at the University of Surrey. Its first workshop was held on 9th December of 2022 in hybrid form with four speakers.  There have been many online workshops and four annual conferences since.  A fifth annual conference is scheduled for June of 2027 at Georgetown Law School. (See the call for papers.)  

The Collective holds regular online workshops each semester for works in progress. It has a mentorship program.  At present, 460 women are on the membership list.  Members come from the United States, Canada, the UK, Turkey, Russia, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Mexico, and thirteen other countries; and represent emerita, senior scholars, junior faculty, legal professionals, and both law and Ph.D. (DPhil) students.  Membership and registration for its conferences is free.

One of the goals of The Collective is to raise the profile of women in legal philosophy.  It is proud to report that some of the papers presented as works in progress at its conferences have since been published in final form in Law and Philosophy.
