Karin Nisenbaum (Kant, German Idealism, Jewish philosophy) and Christopher Noble (ancient philosophy), both Associate Professors of Philosophy at Syracuse University, have accepted appointments at the University of California at Berkeley, effective January 1, 2027. Nisenbaum will be an Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department and the Eda Pell and Moses David Kuflik Professor of Jewish Thought in the Center for Jewish Studies; Noble will be Associate Professor of Philosophy.

With two tenured faculty working on German Idealism–Nisenbaum and Andreja Novakovic–Berkeley philosophy will now be an especially attractive choice for students interested in German Idealism. (Berkeley is also considering other appointments that would further strengthen its appeal for students interested in the post-Kantian Continental traditions in philosophy.)
