UPDATE: Longtime reader S. Wallerstein, an American in Chile, writes:
Some are saying that the deciding moment in Lula’s successful campaign was when Bolsonaro Jr. contemptuously called him “nine fingers” in the final TV debate and Lula, who had lost a finger in an accident operating a lathe, reacted calling that an insult to all the working people in Brazil from a rich kid who had never had a job in his life and demanded that Bolsonaro apologize on the spot to the working people of Brazil, which he did, after a certain telling hesitation. Class counts in politics if you play it right.
