…here. They are:
Philip Bobbitt (University of Texas, Austin)
George Fletcher (Columbia University)
Michael Graetz (Yale University)
Joel Handler (University of California, Los Angeles)
Daniel Meltzer (Harvard University)
Thomas Merrill (Columbia University)
Diane Wood (U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit; Senior Lecturer, University of Chicago Law School–and also UT Law Class of 1975!)
I was particularly pleased to see my colleague Philip Bobbitt recognized; he is one of the few members of the legal academy to have written two books that are recognized classics–Tragic Choices (with Guido Calabresi) and Constitutional Fate: Theory of the Constitution–and a third, more recent book, The Shield of Achilles: War, Peace, and the Course of History, that is likely to become one. This brings to four the number of UT Law faculty elected to the Academy (the others are Douglas Laycock, Sanford Levinson, and Mark Yudof); I’ll compile stats for law schools generally a bit later.
