Think about the London graduate students as well! With funding for PhDs stretching to about 1 in 4 those of us who didn't get any are certainly feeling the pinch!
I don't know anyone paying less than £100 (~$190) per week for accommodation (usually a single room in a house with shared kitchen/bathroom). That plus travel costs (£648 for minimum tube travelcard, more if you live further from the centre) and food as basic living costs set you back a minimum of £7000 per year. AHRC doctoral funding currently stands at £14,000 for those living in London and so with funding it is not too bad but without, a nightmare!
