This is dramatic, but seems sensible given the war of aggression by the U.S. against Iran. Information from faculty or students there is welcome (please use a real email address, but otherwise you may post anonymously). Are people leaving the country, merely staying off campus, or something else?
It’s a mix. I’m still in the UAE with my family, and we feel safe. But some students and faculty have left for the semester (since classes have moved online).
My former colleagues at another university in Middle East have also been moved to online teaching indefinitely, with the students cast out from the dormitories and the campus kept ticking over by a skeleton staff. The bulk of international faculty have left the country and are not expecting to return until the start of the Fall semester.
If anything, NYU’s closure is a little behind the timeline by comparison to many of the region’s international universities.
