Duke Philosophy Suspending PhD Admissions for This Year

A philosopher at Duke has shared with me the following statement on the admissions situation there (raised by commenters here):

The Duke University Dept of Philosophy regrets to announce that it is suspending admission to its Ph.D. Program for the year 2010-2011 only. (Of course, fees will be refunded to those who have already applied.)  Due to a much larger number of acceptances of admission-offers in the last few years, the Ph.D. program has outstripped its steady-state enrollment by approximately 50 %, and must now reduce its size somewhat. We expect to resume normal admissions next year for the 2011-2012 academic year.
