Friday Poem: “Good Evening”

   Good Evening

This will be my last lecture

Or one of my last

Or one in a series

The subject is uncertainty

Or what we cannot fathom

Or what we’d rather not

And each insight changes meaning

As does each fact that is revealed

While in summary the outcome is unknown

Better to know than not

Unless of course the known

Is what we’d rather not

Taken together such profusion

Seems insufficient for conclusion

Although suitable for confusion

I put it to you then

That I simply do not understand

What the future holds if indeed it must

Were I to know less

I’d be delighted to say more

Words are after all but words

To exacerbate to console or to ignore
