One sign that blogs are very much a part of the profession…

…is that even as blogs proliferate, traffic here continues to climb.  It used to be that August was a sleepy month, with maybe 7 or 8,000 hits per weekday, but here's the stats on visits for the last thirty days (the data for today, the 13th, is obviously incomplete); page views are usualy about 50% higher than the visits for a given day:

This Month's Visits by Day

Similarly striking are the overall summer stats compared to just a few years ago; for example:

June 2009:  180,000 visits, 278,000 page views.

July 2009:  183,000 visits, 293,000 page views.

August 2009:  180,000 visits, 283,000 page views.

By contrast, this summer,

June 2014:  333,000 visits, 483,000 page views

July 2014:  359,000 visits, 521,000 page views

August 2014:  372,000 visits, 535,000 page views

During those five years, of course, many more philosophers joined the blogosphere, but the effect has clearly been to turn more philosophy faculty and students into blog readers.
