The McMaster Department of Philosophy has now put together the following notice commemorating Barry: Barry Allen: A Philosophical Life Barry…

In Memoriam: Hilary Putnam (1926-2016)

MOVING TO FRONT FROM MARCH 13–UPDATED

One of the great figures of post-WWII "analytic" philosophy, Professor Putnam made seminal contributions to the philosophies of science, mathematics, language, and mind.  He earned his PhD at UCLA with Hans Reichenbach, and taught at Northwestern, Princeton, MIT and for most of his career at Harvard, where he was emeritus.  I will add links to memorial notices as they appear.  (Addendum:  I'm told by a friend of Putnam's that he died of mesothelioma.)

FUNERAL INFORMATION:  The funeral will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Levine Chapel, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline. Burial will be immediately after at the Crawford St. Cemetery at 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury.

ANOTHER:  A memorial from Martha Nussbaum.

AND ANOTHER:  An obituary from The Guardian.  (Thanks to Richard Baron for the pointer.)

A BRIEF MEMORIAL from the Harvard Department, with links to others.

AN OBITUARY from The New York Times.  (Thanks to Steve Gross for the pointer.)
