The McMaster Department of Philosophy has now put together the following notice commemorating Barry: Barry Allen: A Philosophical Life Barry…

“there will be no compensation for this position”

This job ad for an adjunct assistant professor of chemistry and  biochemistry at UCLA is making the rounds on social media because it involves no salary.  I'll venture an hypothesis:  although the position is without salary, it doesn't say it comes without benefits (e.g., health insurance).   The position was advertised on March 4, with a closing date of April 4.  My guess is that the department has someone in mind (maybe a recent PhD of theirs?) who needs a benefits-eligible position until their real job starts, hence this position, which they have to advertise because of equal opportunity laws.  By emphasizing it has no salary, they hope to scare everyone else off!
