A longtime member of the philosophy and Chinese faculties at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he was emeritus, Professor Munro was one of the leading scholars of Chinese philosophy of his generation in the Anglophone world. There is an obituary here. Comments are open for remembrances from those who knew Professor Munro, or for those who wish to comment on the significance of his work.

I never took a course by Professor Munro at Michigan. I regret that I did not. I read his fascinating discussion about moral realism when he was interviewed. He contrasted his philosophical view with that of Charles L. Stevenson (I did take a course with Prof. Stevenson). I also am grateful that he and his wife Anne endowed a tenure-track professorship in Philosophy and Chinese Studies & Culture.. It is my hope that others who are more knowledgeable than I am about the significance of his work can comment. What a true partner in learning to leave an endowed chair in Philosophy and Chinese Studies. Professor Munro is obviously one of a kind!
