Time to close “American Studies” programs?

First we have Zareena Grewal in American Studies at Yale, now we have Jemma Decristo in American Studies at UC Davis.   If the tweet is real, and if Decristo is not having an actual mental health crisis, then that tweet is arguably a "true threat," and so unprotected by the First Amendment (or academic freedom), in which case it could constitute grounds for termination.  Although the title of this post is a bit of a joke, one does wonder why some of the more unhinged or simply vicious comments are emerging from the feebler area-study fields?
