I’m pretty ambivalent about this, so have been sitting on it for a few days. The details are here, and readers might as well decide for themselves whether it’s worth their time. The competition has a panel of good judges, albeit with a skew to fairly technical areas of philosophy, where one might expect LLMs to do better (cf. Kaufman). One possible outcome is that the real philosophers judge the AI-assisted philosophy not to be very good. Another possibility is that they judge AI-assisted formal epistemology, for example, to be as good as the “real thing,” and then we can stop hiring formal epistemologists (with apologies to my formal epistemology friends). I guess we’ll see!
